Olga Pericet explores the symbolic relationship between the animal and the instrument in “La Leona” (The Lioness), which takes its inspiration from Antonio De Torres’s famous guitar of the same name, generally considered the first prototype of the Spanish flamenco guitar. It is an interpretation that embraces artistic freedom, drawing inspiration from a unique instrument and its remarkable construction process. The performance is imbued with subtle nuances and poetic touches that give it a captivating air of mystique. “I want to explore the origins of flamenco, the ‘pre-flamenco’, if you like, its mythology and ancestral beginnings… With a strong emphasis on reclaiming femininity in a rebellious and defiant manner, the piece also explores the aesthetic portrayal of eroticism, the exotic and beauty. Drawing inspiration from original music scores, and materials like brass, paint, varnish, and wood. Solid materials.”
